The Door to the Sheepfold

This project was brought about by the Dean of the Art Department just before Christmas 2007. We were to illustrate one of the 9 characteristics of Christ. I chose to illustrate Christ as the 'Door to the Sheepfold.' A sheepfold is a safe enclosed area for sheep to stay, and this painting represents Christ as the door or entrance to that safe haven. Only by and through Him can we be saved. (Oil on Canvas)

Edward and Bella in the Meadow

This was a narrative painting I did to illustrate the part in the book, Twilight, where Bella first sees Edward's skin in the sun. It was done in gauche on illustration board. I actually had my sister and her boyfriend pose for this painting. I had them come to my Dad's photography studio and took several pictures of them for reference. I then placed them in an outdoor scene (meadow) in order to complete the painting. I also repainted the way Edward's skin reacted to the sun several times and this subtle glow seemed to work the best.

Will Smith Caricature

Will Smith is one of my favorite male actors. We had an assignment to do a caricature of a celebrity including at least three "symbols" of their career. I focused most of my time working on likeness. But I also took the liberty of exaggerating some of Will Smith's famous physical characteristics!

Little Miss Muffet

This is one of the first paintings I did in gauche (a more opaque watercolor). It was for my Illustration 1 class at BYU with Richurd Hull. I used my little sister and some of her dress-ups for reference, took numerous shots, and then pieced them together for the perfect composition in order to tell the story of Little Miss Muffet.
